Utah Inmate Search

Utah

A few steps are involved when you want to find an inmate in any of Utah's correctional facilities, and the first should be to acquire the inmate's full name and preferably offender number. Whether you're conducting an online offender search for an individual incarcerated, on probation, or paroled, use the Utah Department of Corrections' website.

The UDC or UT DOC assigns inmates a facility depending on where they were arrested and convicted for easier access to complement programs designed to restructure their behavior. Your Utah offender lookup will rely on the records maintained by this agency, even if they're in facilities not within the state.

To find the current location of an offender, you'll require their first, middle, and last names, plus a number unique to that individual's file. The UDC site search function initially asks you to agree to a disclaimer in small print regarding the privacy of information before returning results for your searched names or offender number

Once the list is generated, you can select the name to see more details that will include:

  • The inmate's full name and aliases
  • Offender number and Sex
  • Date of birth and location of an inmate
  • Height, weight, and housing facility
  • Parole or release date

You can also obtain an inmate's details and location by contacting the corrections staff of the facility the offender is currently housed. Utah's federal prison offenders can be located using the Federal Bureau of Prisons or the BOP website.

Utah Inmate Roster

Only state and county prisoners are accounted for by the UDC website offender lookup tool, so you may need to search the counties and city jails inmate roster. These rosters are lists that show the adult population in facilities across the state, and it's maintained by the county sheriff or city police departments.

The inmate placement program by the Utah prison system results from the UDC not having enough bed capacity in the facilities it oversees. That means inmates are scattered in private and county facilities throughout the state with contracts with the department.

As such, inmate rosters in many of these facilities contain information on offenders incarcerated for at least a year by the state. You can search for the individual using their name and arrest number from the county sheriff or police department, which returns the inmate's details, including their photo.

Searchable inmate roster information stays on the sheriff or city police website for at least 30 days, after which the mugshot will be dropped. The rest of the inmate's details stay on the site for a year or longer, and search results will return:

  • An arrest, and booking date
  • Booking number, and charges
  • Custody status, and facility location
  • Release date, and arrest agency

That scenario is replicated in the three correctional facilities overseen by the UDC, and these are:

Utah State Correctional FacilityThe USCF is a brand-new correctional facility designated to handle less than 3,000 inmates, and it officially started operations in 2022. Its floor-to-ceiling windows let inmates enjoy natural light and mountain views in an environment focused on mental health, programming, and crèche services.

Central Utah Correctional Facility: Situated in Gunnison, the central Utah correctional facility was inaugurated in 1989 with a capacity to hold 1,800 individuals. With three facilities, one in Boulder, one in Henry, and another in Monroe, it offers numerous works, life skills, and substance abuse treatment or education programs.

About The Utah State Department of Corrections

The Utah Department of Corrections supervises offenders, adults, and juveniles alike, in state prisons and city or county jails around the state. Located at 14717 S. Minuteman Drive, Draper, Utah 84020, the department provides various offender rehabilitation programs that assist reentry into society.

Of the 29 state-run prisons and county jails in Utah, the UDC operates two, while counties and private companies manage the rest. There's an average of 5,200 inmates incarcerated, paroled, or under joint community supervision at any time in Utah.

Five community correction centers are under the UDC's supervision, including the Northern Utah Correctional Center, Fortitude Treatment Center, Orange Street, Bonneville, and Atherton. Its correctional, probation, and parole officers perform various functions at facilities, courts, and the community.

UDC has partnerships with Utah prison industries, which employ inmates to work on furniture, embroidery, and signage pieces. The department contracts with private and public industry enterprises on other projects, while the UDCs Division of Programming delivers cognitive restructuring and substance abuse treatment.
