New Mexico Inmate Search

Updated on: March 31, 2024
New Mexico

The New Mexico offender lookup function is the official search engine for finding inmates incarcerated within the state. You can find anyone in containment in the New Mexico Corrections Department, whether in custody, on probation, or on parole.

However, the NMCD search tool only provides information for state prisoners, but there are relevant websites that offer functions to locate an inmate within a city or county jail. The department doesn't have jurisdiction over facilities operated by the police or sheriff's offices, and information on offenders is available from jail rosters.

The inmate locator on the NMCD website requires you to know at least one of the inmates' names and their state prison-issued offender number and then click on Search. On the site, you're asked to prove that you're not a robot with a ReCapcha button and subsequent verifications before directing you to the search results that include;

  • The offender's last, first, and middle name
  • NMCD and offender numbers
  • Supervision status
  • View details buttons

Clicking on the View Details button generates more information on the inmate whose file you've selected to look into. You'll see a well-defined mug shot of the offender holding an identification placard with their name, NMCD/Offender number, location, and date, standing in front of a height scale.

Beneath the photograph is a section titled Details which repeats the information displayed on the ID parade placard, alongside their offender status and name of parole or probation officer. To the right of the page, another column details the prisoner's demographics, which are physical descriptions, ethnicity, religion, and aliases.

A current offense section informs about the inmate's crime and the court judgment, while below is a description of past offenses and release dates. To ensure timeliness and accuracy, information on this database is updated each time there's a change in a prisoner's custody status, parole hearing, or release.

New Mexico Inmate Roster

Several other avenues exist to locate the individual if you can't find inmates currently incarcerated in New Mexico through the NM Correction Department's offender lookup tool. One of these is the city and county jail inmate roster, which are databases maintained by individual facilities around the state.

Since the NMCD website's official search engine caters to inmates of state prisons, you'll head to sites operated by county sheriffs or city police departments. You'll be asked to provide the inmate's name and NMCD ID on these locator tools, and the results will include the offender's mugshot.

Besides visiting each local jail's website, or county and municipal agencies, one way to make your search easier is to search in the county where the offender was committed. Usually, inmate rosters are regularly updated, seeing as there's a high turnover in prisoners as many serve short-term sentences.

New Mexico also has a comprehensive sex offender register managed by the local sheriff's offices collaborating with the NM Department of Public Safety. Their database includes perpetrators that have committed offenses in the state or have moved there from elsewhere.

You can perform a sex offender search using parameters like name, phone numbers, city or county, or any known online identifiers and user names. Results show those registered suspects match the information you've provided, and there's a photo, alerts, address, and type.

Details and other known addresses of sex offenders have conclusive details of their physical description, including how much they weigh and if they have any tattoos. Besides that, there's a most wanted absconders database by the NMCD, published in PDF format and containing names, descriptions, offenses, and mugshot of fugitives.

About The New Mexico State Department of Corrections

With headquarters in Santa Fe County, the New Mexico Corrections Department is the government agency responsible for correctional facilities and activities in the state. The NMCD is unique in that it's divided into eight smaller divisions, and the most significant, covering 11 facilities across the state, is the Adult Prison Division or APD.

It houses over 7,000 inmates and is committed to public safety, reformation, and rehabilitation programs to reduce recidivism risks. Another of the larger divisions is the Probation and Parole Division, PPD, which, at any given time throughout the state, supervises close to 19,000 offenders.

To ensure smooth integration and transition back to society, the PPD ensures that inmates comply with supervision conditions. These include counseling, drug testing, and restitution for offenders granted parole after serving a considerable part of their sentence.
