New Jersey

The New Jersey Department of Corrections offers an inmate locator function on its official website for currently incarcerated inmates of state correctional facilities. You'll also find information on inmates released within the year, as NJ law mandates the NJDOC to maintain parolee records even after the expiry of their supervision dates.

You can use the inmate's name, State Identification Number, or SBI to locate offenders in any New Jersey state correctional facility. Narrow your search down with additional parameters, including the individual's date of birth, physical description, and county of commitment.

Returned results of your New Jersey offender lookup will include administrative and personal information that consists of the inmate's photo for easier identification. You'll also learn of an offender's location and their current NJDOC custody arrangement, whether incarcerated or otherwise.

The New Jersey offender lookup generates data on an inmate's SBI number, name, and sex, alongside particulars about the individual's race, hair, and eye color. Vital information on that offender's county or counties of commitment, as well as their current facility location, is followed by details of their birthdate and age.

If you know the SBI number of the inmate, filling it out as the search filter will take you directly to the file that matches your locator criteria. You'll also see information for prisoners released for up to a year, including their photo, full name, correctional facility, and admission date.

By selecting an offender's SBI number, a printer-friendly profile page of inmates currently incarcerated in New Jersey, with details that including:

  • Name inmate was sentenced as
  • Race and ethnicity, if known
  • Sex, height, and weight
  • Maximum release and parole eligibility dates
  • Offense and county of commitment

Other than the NJDOC database, there's also searchable information on sex offenders and the states most wanted that's maintained in partnership with the New Jersey state police. You can search on these platforms using the individual's name, location, or internet profile email addresses or usernames.

The lists generated from searching both the sex offenders and most wanted databases give conclusive physical descriptions of the offender. You'll also read about the person's address and a detailed description of their offenses, alongside any aliases and SBI or FBI numbers for cross-state fugitives.

In New Jersey, you can locate the city and county correctional facility inmates using online resources provided by police and sheriff departments. While jails fall under the jurisdiction of the NJDOC, local law enforcement agencies maintain a regularly updated inmate roster.

If there's no website for county or city police and sheriff offices, you can visit their locations and enquire about an offender's whereabouts. Call or visit the jail and request to query their inmate roster using the person's name or SBI number, and you'll find information about their whereabouts.

Inmate roster records are updated each time a prisoner is moved, receives visitations, is medically tested or more charges added to their offense sheet. There are also details on an offender's court progress, including the courthouse and judge they're docketed against.
