Minnesota Inmate Search

Updated on: March 20, 2024
Minnesota

There are several ways for you to locate an inmate in any detention center in Minnesota. The state has an inmate locator on the internet that gives information about all inmates currently incarcerated. Moreover, the database will give information regarding bond if it is available.

The data provided on the inmate roster is updated regularly to ensure that all the information about the detainees is captured. The information contained is not criminal history, and you should not treat it as such. Individuals on the site are innocent until they are proven guilty.

If you do not have internet, you can walk into any of the detention centers in Minnesota and get the information you want.

You also have the option of calling any of the facilities directly and enquiring whether an inmate is being held there. However, a phone call may take some time to bear fruits based on the huge number of activities at the facilities at any given time. So if you don't have some internet, it is best to get to where you can access it, as the process will be a breeze.

Inmate Roster

Minnesota inmate roster contains public information about all those who are in prisons under the state's jurisdiction. It will also contain information about those who are released but are still under supervision.

The Minnesota DOC offender lookup allows you to find information about inmates using their details, and after a successful search, you will find helpful information, including:

  • Offender's name, date of birth, and MNDOC Offender ID.
  • Sentence and release dates
  • Status custody and where they are currently incarcerated
  • Phone number and caseworker's name.

What's more, Minnesota offender lookup offers the following results:

  • The Active DOC Fugitives has pictures and information of wanted fugitives in Minnesota.
  • Predatory Offender Search: it provides information of persons that Minnesota statutes have to register.

Minnesota Department of Corrections

Minnesota opened its first jail in 1853, five years before it became a state. Because of the high inmate population, overtime it became overpopulated. The Minnesota State Reformatory started its operations in 1889. However, there was still need to have other facilities for juveniles and women.

The state established the Red Wing State Training School for Boys and Girls in 1891. In the subsequent years there have been many other facilities, including 82 county jails and 13 state prisons. All these facilities are run by the Minnesota Department of Corrections (MNDOC).

Felons who receive jail terms of less than one year are held in Minnesota state prisons. Those who have sentences of less than 12 months are incarcerated in county jails. The Minnesota County Sherriff's Association runs county jails through supervision of the MNDOC.

The Minnesota department of corrections has over 7511 inmates held in state facilities, more than 7070 in county jails, and over 96,000 on parole, probation, and supervised release. The rate of imprisonment in Minnesota is 342 per 100,000 people. Moreover, there are at least 69,000 individuals who are booked in local jails each year.

Minnesota DOC Victim Support

Minnesota department of corrections offers different resources that help individuals who have been impacted by crime. One of the ways is by getting restitution monies from offenders and giving it to the victims. There are different ways in which the DOC collects the money from inmates, including the following:

  • Prison wages
  • 5% surcharge on items bought in the canteen apart from hygiene items
  • 10% of the money that offenders send to family and friends
  • 10% of all the monies sent to the inmate by loved ones.

After getting this money, the DOC sends it to the recipients' county court administration, who later gives to the victim. Moreover, Minnesota DOC maintains the Minnesota Haven that provides the victims with necessary info regarding incarcerated individuals.

Minnesota Board of Pardons

The Minnesota department of corrections runs the Minnesota Board of Pardons which gives an opportunity to inmates to apply for pardon of their sentence commutation. The board is made up of the Chief Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court, Attorney General, and the Minnesota Governor. The following are the eligibility requirements for a pardon:

  • The applicant should not have a record pardon that the board denied.
  • The request has to be of a criminal conviction and not petty crime.
  • The offender should be serving their sentence.
  • You cannot apply if you are convicted in a federal court, other states, or foreign countries.
