Massachusetts Department of Corrections (DOC) was established in 1919 and is responsible for the running of the state’s prison system. The Departments's main mission is to protect the public and effect behavioral change to decrease violence, recidivism and victimization.

About Massachusetts Department of Corrections

There are eighteen correctional facilities ranging from maximum to pre-lease security levels. All the prisons in the state provide counseling, psychiatric, recreational, educational, and vocational services. Additionally, there are a few facilities that have programs in industry and farming. There are 9479 convicts and 4,600 employees in the Massachusetts Department of Corrections as of July 2022.

The Department gets its accreditation from the American Correctional Association, the State Department of Public Health, and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care.

  • The Juvenile Corrections agency, which works under DOC provides services to offending youths. The juvenile agency offers pre-trial detention to youths who have not yet gotten their bail, as well as those who are held for long-treatment treatment.
  • The parole board monitors parole eligible dates, supervises released offenders, and prepares files for consideration. Moreover, it acts as the advisory board for all the pardons.
  • The Department of Corrections also runs the Massachusetts Correctional Industries (MassCor) that instills positive work ethic by offering skills and training through work opportunities. To develop employable skills and strong work habits, MassCor operates manufacturing plants in various prisons, employing over 350 inmates.

Department of Corrections provides reentry services to all inmates, ensuring that there is seamless transition from jail into the community. For each prisoner in the state, the department creates an Individual Reentry Plan that addresses employment opportunities, physical or mental health services, community resources, eligibility for state Medicaid Program, and post-release housing.

Because of the growing number of inmates and the need to have an effective offender lookup the Massachusetts State Department of Corrections has an integrated IMS. The IMS tracks the inmates from the time they enter a detention center to the time they are released.

IMS not only automates and organizes the information contained in the inmate roster but also automates security processes that are important to the facility's operations. Thanks to the IMS system, officers working in DOC are able to report incidents in real-time.

Inmate Search in Massachusetts

It should not be a problem when you are searching for an inmate in Massachusetts. The state has an offender lookup site that has all the information regarding inmates currently incarcerated in the state’s prisons and detention centers. Massachusetts ensures that it updates the inmate roster on their website on a regular basis.

Being a large state with many detention centers and prisons, you need to have specific information regarding an inmate. It is important that you get to know the facility your loved one is being held. Additionally, information in their database will give information regarding the bond terms. In case you are not comfortable with the internet, you can visit any of the facilities physically or call their toll-free line (866) 277-7477.

However, it is important to note that names of those who have been released from custody will not appear on the database. You need to have the inmates name and their Identification Number, and you will find them with all their charges and release dates.

Inmate Roster

The Massachusetts offender lookup has inmate record that contains paperwork, documents, and other forms of information that tells a person’s journey through the states correctional system. The information will include things like fingerprints, police reports, arrest warrants, mugshots, court visits, and files from correctional facilities.

The roster also includes inmates’ demographics, bed management, date computation, escape notification, and criminal history. Additionally, it facilitates interagency data sharing and supports investigative needs across all DOC facilities in Massachusetts.

Administrative records have an inmate roster that has details about prisoners’ arrival, stay, and release from Massachusetts prisons. You can view this information as long as they are non-confidential according to the Massachusetts Public Records Law. Inmate records are public, and you can access them through third-party websites or traditional governmental agencies.
