Kentucky

Suppose you are wondering whether looking for inmate information in Kentucky is possible, then you are at the right place. All you need to do is visit the Kentucky Online Offender Lookup (KOOL) with a few personal details like the inmate's first, middle, and last names. Additional information like race, age, height, national security number, and gender are required for faster and more accurate results.

Understanding Kentucky Inmate Roster

Kentucky Inmate Roster contains an inmate's personal and sentencing information such as their biodata, mugshot, details of the arrest, and charges. This information is attached to the offender's name, birth date, gender, race, physical description, and other personal details.

According to the Kentucky Open Records Act, the inmates' information is open to the public. The information can easily be accessed through a government agency website like KOOL or third-party websites. However, inmate data on third-party agency websites may differ since they are not government-sponsored.

How to Search for an Inmate in Kentucky

The step-to-step procedure for conducting a Kentucky Offender Lookup on the Kentucky Online Offender Lookup website (KOOL) is provided below.

  • Visit the website- Log into the Kentucky Online Offender Lookup (KOOL) website and fill in the provided spaces with the required information. The most important information is the inmate's first, middle, and last names. Suppose you also have other required information about the inmate, like their race, age, gender, when they committed the crime, and when they were sentenced, the information could be used to increase the chances of accurate findings.
  • Identify the inmate- Once you have provided the required information about the inmate, an Inmate Roster of similar inmates will be provided. Scroll through the list until you identify the individual you are looking for.
  • Select the name that best suits your search- After identifying a name, click on it to be directed to the name's personal information.

However, according to the Kentucky Open Records Act, there is a limit to the inmate's information that is shared with the public. For instance, the inmate's juvenile records will not be released to the general public.

There are occasions when you might not find an inmate's information on the website, especially when the inmate is a new offender. The inmate should have already spent at least more than 120 days in prison to allow for the update of the system. Suppose tracking an inmate on the KOOL website proves unfruitful; consider calling the prisoner record line here: (502) 564-24330.

Finding Inmate Release Date

An inmate's release date is equally accessible online, just like personal information. However, that is not always the case, mainly due to security reasons. Sometimes, an inmate's release date is only visible to those close to them, like family members, the inmate's attorney, and the law officials with authorization.

The KDOC's main office is in the Frankfort's Health Services Building at 275 E Main St, Frankfort, KY 40601, USA. It is also accessible to anybody willing to visit the state prisons in Kentucky.

Kentucky State Prisons vs. County Jails

The main difference between Kentucky State Prisons and County Jails is the kind of prisoners they hold. Kentucky has 10 prisons and 16 county jails across the state. They are all managed by the Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC).

The inmates in county jails are either waiting for trial or have already been sentenced and are serving jail time that is one year or less. The county jails' facilities and programs are much fewer than state prisons. The Sheriffs' offices also guide them.

At the same time, Kentucky state prisons contain inmates currently incarcerated for longer than a year. The prisoners are classified into close, minimum, medium, and maximum security sections. Those in Close security pose a severe danger to themselves and others close to them. Those in minimum-security inmates are considered low-risk, while those in Medium and maximum-security sections are grouped according to their crimes.
