Georgia Inmate Search

Georgia

Georgia is one of the states with the highest number of correctional facilities in the United States. Most of the offenders in the state are convicted for crimes such as drug possession and probation violations. There are also a high number of inmates with life sentences.

How Do I Search For An Inmate In Georgia?

The Georgia Department of Corrections provides an offender locator on its site where you can search for an inmate. You can search by entering your inmate’s first or last name. The offender lookup tool also offers other options to narrow your search. You can enter the inmate’s age, gender, race, and location.

The search results provide a list of the offender’s name, offense, and location. You can click the “View Offender Info” button to view further inmate details. You will get information including race, year of birth, mug shot, eye color, weight, height, and hair color.

It’s also possible to search for an inmate with a third-party search tool such as InfoTracer to get all information regarding an inmate. However, it’s good to note that the government doesn’t sponsor third-party websites. So, the inmate details you get from these sites can differ from the official channels. When using third-party websites, you can use inmate case numbers and IDs.

You can also search for an inmate in the county jails. Sheriff’s offices manage the county jails, so inmate search differs from one county to another. Most of the sheriff’s offices have a list of their inmates. Others have online inmate search tools. Therefore, when searching for an inmate in a county with an online tool or portal, start by entering their details such as names or ID numbers. If you are searching in a county jail that publishes an inmate list, you should provide their full names and identification.

Juvenile records are not provided to the public. Their records are confidential unless the juvenile has committed a federal crime or felony. You can only get details about a juvenile if you are a parent, or guardian, work with a government law enforcement agency, or you are their legal representative.

Inmate Roster

An inmate roster in Georgia contains details of all the convicted people remanded in the correctional facilities run by the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDOC) or county. When you get the inmate roster, you can expect to find the offender’s full biodata and sentencing details. People are allowed to inspect the detail in the inmate roster by the Georgia Open Records Act. The inmate roster may include evidence, court records, charges, and arrest reports.

Georgia State Department of Correction

Georgia has a three-tier system of jails and prisons. The Georgia Department of Corrections runs the state prisons. The county jails are managed by the specific counties where they are located. There are also private prisons that are contracted out to private firms. However, all of these correctional facilities are under the management of the Georgia Department of Corrections.

Georgia State Department of Correction helps manage offenders and offers a secure environment to the residents. The agency manages one of the biggest prison systems in the country with over 52,000 state prisoners. It’s also the largest law enforcement department with more than ten thousand employees.

The Georgia State Department of Correction manages 35 state prisons, seven probation detention centers, four private prisons, and 21 county jails. The county jails differ in size, with the largest one accommodating more than three thousand offenders. Most prisoners are housed in state prisons, but some others are housed in private prisons and jails.

Some inmates in state prisons are allowed to work in farm operations, construction sites, or fire services. The department categorizes state prisons and units into three categories:

  • Close security housing inmates with high risk for escape and require close monitoring.
  • Medium security is for inmates who require supervision but can work in programs outside the state prisons.
  • The minimum security is for offenders posing the least risk and adhering to the set rules.

The Georgia Department of Corrections keeps most offender records. However, other records are found in local police, the courts, or government agencies.
