Florida

Florida is one of the states with high criminal rates in the United States. It’s estimated that the number of inmates in correctional facilities will hit 93,335 by end of 2027-2028 fiscal year, according to a report by the state Criminal Justice Estimating Conference.

Inmate Roster

Inmate roster in Florida is the official file containing individual and administrative details of all the offenders incarcerated in the detention and correctional facilities in the state. The inmate roster is public information as stipulated by the Florida Sunshine Laws. All interested people can access the roster upon request.

Besides you can also access the information through third-party organizations and websites. When you get the inmate roster, you can expect to find inmates’ data, including names, genders, ages, and mugshots. You will also find their registration numbers, locations, custody statutes, and jail transfer details.

The Florida Department of Corrections updates the inmate roster regularly to ensure that it offers accurate information. Note that the inmate roster only includes data on inmates sentenced by the Department of Corrections. It has information on inmates housed in the state prisons or under state supervision.

The information contained includes prior and current offenses, including conspiracies, attempts, and solicitations to commit a crime. The data is sourced from court records given to the Florida Department of Corrections and made public to all interested people. If you believe the detail in the inmate roster is wrong, you can contact the Department of Corrections.

How to Search for an Inmate in Florida

The Florida State Department of Corrections keeps records of all incarcerated inmates in state-supervised private and state-run prisons. The agency offers an offender lookup tool you can use to search for an inmate by name for free.

With the lookup tool, you can search for an inmate using their DC number. This is a six-character alphanumeric or numeric designation unique to each offender in all correctional facilities operated by the Florida State Department of Corrections. To make your search more specific, you can use known aliases. Besides the inmate’s name, the search results include status, photo, release date, and current location.

Each jail in Florida has an inmate search tool you can use to search for an inmate in the county jails. The tool is hosted on the jail’s webpage, typically a part of the Sheriff’s office site. Most jails also publish inmate rosters where you can also perform the search. Besides, you can also search by visiting the jail in person. If these options aren’t available for you, you can call the specific county jail or Sheriff’s office to search for an inmate.

It’s also possible to search for an inmate release date using an inmate locator provided by the Department of Corrections. Besides personal information and the offense summary, your search gives you the expected release date. The inmate locator also helps when searching for the release date of former inmates.

You can also use a third-party website to search for an inmate in Florida. The third-party websites offer more efficient search results since they are not limited by geographical locations. However, since they are not affiliated with the government, the search results may vary from the official results. To perform the search on third-party websites, you should enter the state, county, and city where the inmate lives. You should also include their name unless the inmate is a juvenile.
