Inmate roster

Connecticut inmate roster contains all information about inmates in the state’s correctional facilities. The roster is the official file for offenders in penal facilities, state-operated facilities, and county jails.

As per the Connecticut Freedom of Information Act, the inmate roster is a public document, so all interested people should assess it upon request. This act provides that all government records and information must be available to the public unless made private for other reasons.

In the inmate rosters, expect to find the offender’s details, including full names, date of birth, mugshots, gender, current sentence, primary charges, release dates, and court dates.

How do I Search for an Inmate in Connecticut?

The State Department of Corrections maintains and provides all the records of inmates in all the correctional facilities in the state. The agency website has prison lookup tools, inmate accounts, locations, and vital information for the inmate’s families and relatives. When doing an inmate search in Connecticut, you can get the related details using the available publications and tools on the website. You can also contact any of the correctional facilities through Fax or phone.

To search for an inmate using the offender lookup tool, you should know their full name, Connecticut DOC inmate number or date of birth. The search results show their location, sentence date, bond amount, sentence length, and probable release date. For inmates in the county jails, you can get in touch with the specific county Sheriff’s office with the inmate’s names and other relevant details to aid the search.

The following are some of the search criteria you can use:

  • Inmate Incarceration Number category - When an inmate is admitted into custody of the Connecticut State Department of Corrections, they are provided with an identification number. This acts as the inmate’s identifier, and entering it when doing an inmate search gives results specific to the inmate.
  • Last Name Category - As you search, you will find the Last Name category, where you can enter the inmate’s last name to perform your inmate search. This category helps when you don’t know the incarceration number of the inmate. A last name search gives names of inmates fitting the given criteria. Alternatively, the category allows you to enter the first few letters of the inmate’s last name and get results with full names containing those letters.
  • First Name Category -The category works together with the last name search. Using both names narrows your results since you are more specific. Similarly, you get search results with names matching this criterion.
  • Date of Birth - Using the date of birth during your search with the last name option allows you to get more specific results and make the inmate search easy.

The Connecticut State Department of Corrections updates the detail of its website after every few hours to enhance completeness and accuracy. However, sometimes there can be some delays, meaning you should confirm with the agency about the accuracy of the information.

You can also search for an inmate’s release date using the online inmate lookup tool. However, the release date information is not available to the public if this puts the inmate’s life at a safety risk. In this case, you will only get the information if you are an immediate family member, an authorized criminal justice official, or a crime victim.
