Crime in Colorado has increased in 2022. A study by Common Sense Institute revealed that crimes such as motor vehicle theft, arson, robbery, vandalism, drug possession, and prostitution have increased. As of July 2022, Colorado had 12,510 offenders incarcerated for various crimes in various correctional facilities.

Inmate Roster

The Colorado Department of Correction maintains an inmate roster detailing all the inmates in the State’s correctional facilities. The inmate roster has the official records of the people incarcerated or detained in the facilities at the county and state levels.

According to the Colorado Open Records Act, the roster is readily available to all interested persons. The details included in the inmate roster include their name, personal information, physical descriptions, and information on their sentencing and conviction. The roster also has the inmate’s release date or parole eligibility date.

How Do I Search for an Inmate in Colorado?

The Colorado Department of Correction allows you to get general inmate details through a prison offender lookup tool. You can conduct a free inmate search using the inmate’s name and DOC number if you know it. Another option is to call (719) 226-488 with the inmate’s details.

Most counties in the state offer people access to inmate data through the county sheriff’s site or the city police. For example:

  • In Denver, you can search for an inmate online through the Denver Colorado inmate search tool using the inmate’s name and booking number to search.
  • El Paso County Sheriff also has the same inmate search tool you can use to find an inmate using the last name or booking number.

You can also get inmate details by contacting your specific County’s support desk or sending a search request to your local city police department.

Filter info to narrow your search to specific details about the inmate. For instance, you can search by gender, ethnicity, name, location, and age. Besides, you can narrow your search to include more specific details such as eye color, parole date, weight, and list of convictions with their sentence or discharge date.

You can also search for the inmate’s release date using the prison lookup tool. However, if the release date is not provided through the search, you can contact the record custodian and give the inmate’s identification number or name. It’s good to note that an inmate’s release date is confidential, so you can only get the detail if you are an immediate family member or a legal representative.

You can also use third-party websites to search for an inmate in Colorado. Some of these websites include the VINE website or InfoTracer. These websites give a more straightforward search result since they don’t have geographical limitations.

The Colorado Department of Corrections

The Colorado Department of Corrections manages Colorado’s correction system. It runs all the correctional facilities where offenders are incarcerated. It manages the state prions while the Federal Bureau of Prisons manages the federal prisons. The agency has several programs for the inmates aimed at helping them change their behaviors and welfare while incarcerated in correctional facilities. Some of the programs run by the department include vocational training, education, and work release programs. The work release programs enable the offenders to work outside the prison as they serve their sentences.

The department classifies inmates in state prisons based on their risk level determined by criminal history and crime severity.

  • The low-risk offenders are placed in minimum-security corrections facilities.
  • The high risks ones are placed in maximum-security state prisons.

The agency also manages the Individual county sheriff’s offices responsible for operating the Colorado county jails.

The Colorado Department of Correction has staff who support its mission, values, and vision in helping the inmates change their behaviors and prepare them to re-enter the community. It ensures that the officers in the correctional facilities communicate with the offenders and their families to allow for a more holistic responsibility in rehabilitating the inmates.

The department gives contact information and addresses for all the correctional facilities in Colorado electronically. Thus, you can get details of the inmate in state prisons with the find an offender feature.
