Arizona Inmate Search

Arizona’s Department of Corrections maintains a web-based database of information relating to inmates incarcerated from 1985 onwards. The database contains over 112,000 records of prisoners including the roughly 26,000 inmates who are currently active. They currently update the data weekly.  

How to Search for an Inmate  

To search the database, head over to their database. There’s a menu that will let you search the two main indexes, including the Inmate Search, and the Death Row List at ADC.  

You can then proceed to search by either the ADC number or the inmate’s search name. An ADC number is a 6 digit number assigned to each inmate that’s unique to them. If you have the ADC number, the search results will only show the inmate whom the number corresponds to. 

If you don’t have the ADC number, you can search by the inmate’s last name, gender and whether they’re active or inactive. Each search query narrows down your search.  

Once you find the inmate’s records you’re looking for, you’ll be able to view the following: 

• Basic data 
• Commitment  
• Sentencing 
• Profile classification 
• Infractions 
• Parole information and placement 
• Work program 
• Aliases and warrant information 

However, the website doesn’t contain records for inmates admitted and released between 1972 and 1985. If you need this information, you can contact the state’s Department of Corrections. In addition, you can find records relating to prisoner admissions for the past century up to 1972 in ADC’s historical register. The register contains over 30,000 records arranged in alphabetical order.  

According to information on the ADC website, the release dates and types found on the inmate’s online records are neither verified nor audited by the Department. They are subject to change. You can review the inmate’s case file at the Office of the Clerk of the Court where adjudication of the case occurred. They further say that you can contact them if you’re having problems with the Inmate Data search application.  

Inmate Roster 

The Arizona Department of Corrections (ADC) is the principal law enforcement authority tasked with managing the state’s corrections facilities. Currently, there are four federal prisons and 48 state prisons in Arizona. The four federal prisons house well over 3,000 inmates.  

Federal Prisons in Arizona 

FCI Phoenix – The FCI Phoenix is a medium security level prison that houses around 900 prisoners. There’s a satellite female prison camp within the facility that houses around 200 female inmates.  

FCI Safford – Low security prison FCI Safford houses about 800 male inmates. It also doubles up as a Medical Care Level 1 prison.  

USP Tucson – The United States Penitentiary Tucson is the only high-security federal prison in Arizona that houses over 1,300 male inmates. In addition, there’s a satellite federal prison camp adjacent to it that houses around 100 male prisoners.  

FCI Tucson – The minimum-security federal prison houses around 300 offenders.  

State Prisons in Arizona  

Currently, there are 48 state-run prisons and two treatment centers for state offenders in Arizona housing over 42,000 prisoners at the time of writing. In 2007, Arizona had transferred over 2000 inmates to private facilities in Oklahoma. These state prisons, by city and capacity, include:

• Florence - capacity 3,946 
• Perryville - capacity 2,382 
• Yuma - capacity 2,245 
• Douglas - capacity 2,148

• Phoenix - capacity 1,042 

In addition, there are seven private prisons under the Arizona Department of Corrections, including Phoenix West, Marana, La Palma, Kingman, Florence West, Central Arizona Correctional Facility (CACF) and Red Rock Correctional Center.  

Death Row 

To date, there are 111 inmates on death row in Arizona. The male death row is located in the State Prison Complexes in Eyman and Florence. The women’s death row is in the Perryville Complex. All executions occur at the Florence Central Unit of the Arizona State Prison Complex.   

About Arizona Department of Corrections 

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry dates back to 1875. The Department was formed to spearhead the running of the state’s prison system. Besides managing the over 40,000 currently incarcerated inmates, the department also manages the over 4,000 statutorily released or paroled before serving their entire sentence.  

Besides running the state’s correctional facilities, the Department is in charge of the Corrections Officer Training Academy in Tucson as well. COTA is responsible for recruiting and training correctional officers of the state.  

The Department also runs the Service Dog Unit, responsible for 43 dual-purpose service dogs and their assigned handlers. There are 25 tracking canines with special training in human and narcotics tracking. In addition, they also have an Escape Response Team, Tactical Support, and Crisis Negotiations Units.
