The State of Alaska maintains information regarding incarcerated offenders in all correctional facilities within the State. These records contain prisoners’ information, including name, charges, discerning physical marks, height, weight, and sentence terms, and in other cases, mugshots. In accordance with Alaska Public Records laws, this information is available to the public.
How to Search for an Inmate in Alaska
Officially, you can get information about any prisoner in Alaska by calling the toll-free number (800) 247-9763 or through the Victim Service Unit line at (907) 269-7384. In addition, the Alaska Police Departments maintain their own booking lists for inmates in their respective county and municipal jails. You can access these lists by contacting the local prison administrative staff for information about offenders held at a specific jail. Further, there exist other online lookup tools hosted by independent websites, although we cannot fully verify their authenticity.
Alaska Inmate Roster
As of October 2022, there were 5,271 inmates across the 13 prison facilities in Alaska. The Goose Creek Correctional Center in Wasilla, AK is the most populous, with the 435,000-square-foot facility housing 1,472 inmates at the time of writing. The Ketchikan Correctional Center, on the other end, has the least number of offenders with 58. In addition, there are 21 county jails in Alaska and one private jail.
Currently, the State of Alaska does not have a federal prison. Federal offenders awaiting either trial or sentencing are normally held in state prisons. Once sentenced, they are usually sent to the Federal Correctional Institution in Sheridan, Oregon to serve their terms.
About the Alaska Department of Corrections
The Alaska Department of Corrections is a State Government agency tasked with managing the prison, probation, and parole systems of the state. The agency, currently headquartered in Juneau, AL with offices in Anchorage, AL, is headed by Commissioner Nancy Dahlstrom.
Prior to becoming a state, the Alaska corrections system was then managed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Up until 2005, Alaska held a third of its inmates in private prisons mostly in Florence, AZ. Eventually, the Goose Creek Correctional Centre was commissioned in 2012 and Alaska brought its prisoners back to Alaska. The State went on to open 12 more State prisons and 21 county jails as of 2022 including:

- Palmer Correctional Center – 514 inmates
- Point Mackenzie Correctional Farm – 128 inmates
- Spring Creek Correctional Center – 551 inmates
- Wildwood Correctional Center – 360 inmates
- Yukon-Kuskokwim Correctional Center – 200 inmates
