Alabama Inmate Search

Alabama

Since the United States handles records of incarcerated offenders as public information, these records are available to the public through the various Department of Corrections institutions in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

The Alabama DOC has a database where you can access prisoner information either in person or online. The most convenient way to search for an inmate would be to use the Inmate Search Tool found on the Alabama DOC official website. The alternative would be to visit the Department’s offices on any normal business day except for national holidays.

The quickest way to find a specific inmate is using the AIS number, a unique six-digit number given to each convict incarcerated by the ADOC. Here’s how to go about your search if you’re using the online option.

Step 1: Head over to the Alabama DOC official website and locate their Inmate Search Tool. You can use the three parameters included in the search tool, including the prisoner’s AIS number, first name, and last name.

Step 2: Fill in the inmate’s personal details. If you have the AIS number, you can directly retrieve the inmate’s records, as this will narrow down your search to the specific inmate that matches the data you’ve entered. You can use the first and last name either separately or all together.

You can only view a maximum of 50 records per search, so you’re better off being as specific and as accurate as possible with the information you have about the inmate.

Here’s what a typical search reveals about an inmate:

  • Full names
  • AIS number
  • Institution
  • Race
  • Sex
  • Hair Color
  • Eye Color
  • Height
  • Weight
  • Birth Year
  • Aliases
  • Scars, Marks and Tattoos
  • A photo

The results also include the prisoner’s incarceration details, including the admission date, total term, term served, jail credit, good time received, good time revoked, parole consideration date, and parole status. The search also reveals the case number, date of sentencing, the offense, term to serve and the type of sentencing.
